Connotations Photo Excersise
For part of our course, we explored different types of shots and lighting. We then put these into practise by taking photos based around different emotions and decided which type of shot was best for each emotion.

Fear
To show 'fear', we attempted a 'dutch angle' camera angle and a 'close up' shot distance. The dutch angle represented the different levels between the two models, one being inferior and in fear, the other being superior and fearless. We also tried 'positioned' lighting to cast shadows whcich would evoke a sense of fear in the picture.
Desire
For 'Desire' we decided on a 'low-angle' shot and an 'extreme close up' this is to capture how when you desire something, you strongly want one thing. The close-up focuses on the one person to show the strongness of desire. |

Strength
For the emotion 'strength', we decided to choose the 'worms-eye view' shot. This is because if the camera looks up towards Megan, it looks as though she's strong and on top of the world. We attempted 'Chiaroscuro' lghting by positioning Megan in front of a wall, this was to try and get a shadow which shows the contrasts between light and dark.

Poverty
For 'Poverty', we thought that a 'high angle' shot would be best suited to what we wanted to achieve. This is because this angle gives the impression of looking down on someone and making them look inferior, weak, and vulnerable which best represents poverty. We also tried to get a darker shot to represent the darkness and loneliness of poverty; we attempted this by shooting infront of a bench which would block out some light.

Love
For 'love' , we chose to do a 'straight on' shot, this was to show the clarity of love and how both people in a relationship have to be honest, straight on and on the same level with one another. The contrast between the shadow and the light shows a balance between a dark side and a positive side of a relationship. The shadow could represent dishonesty and unhappiness where as the bright side of the shot represents happiness and a smooth relationship.

Danger
For 'danger', we used a 'low-angle' shot. This is because danger normally shadows over someone, effecting them. The use of this shot depicts that danger shadows above you and there's no escape.
Wealth
To represent 'wealth', we used a 'low-angle' shot. This is to show the attitudes of wealthy people and how they seem to look down on others poorer than them. The use of 'medium' shot highlight the body language of wealth ; typically standing tall and confident.
Weakness
To show 'weakness', a 'high' angle was used. This was to represent how the weak are usually looked down upon and vulnerable. This angle also shows how when you're weak, you're unable to stand up for yourself and be strong.
Loneliness
To show 'loneliness', the most appropriate shot was a 'wide' shot. This was to show the isolation of being lonely and how there's nobody around.
Friendship
To represent 'friendship', we chose to use a 'high angle' shot and a 'close up' shot. The high angle represents a selfie, which is what friends normally do when spending time together- taking selfies. The close-up shows the close bond between friends.
To show 'purity', we decided on a 'straight-on' shot. This shows the innocence and naturalness of being pure. The 'medium' angle further shows a natural body language which emphasises the purity and realness of the photo.
Greed
A 'low-angle' shot was used to represent greed. This is to show that greed normally takes over somebody and makes them believe that they're superior to everyone else. The 'medium' shot presents in further detail the body language of a greedy person- the crossing of arms to show that they're not willing to share anything that they have.
